Gabler Opposes Transportation Tax Increase
HARRISBURG – The state House Tuesday night amended into House Bill 106 a transportation funding plan that contained $2.3 billion in additional taxes and fees on Pennsylvania’s drivers. State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk), who voted against the amendment offered by House Transportation Committee Majority Chairman Nick Micozzie (R-Delaware), issued the following statement upon passage of the measure:
“My promise has always been to fight for the taxpayers of the 75th District by working to ensure responsible management of their hard-earned dollars. In keeping that promise, I could not support taking an additional $2.3 billion per year out of the pockets of working families, seniors and job creators. I do not believe many hard-working citizens can afford the 28 cent-per-gallon increase in gasoline taxes and license and registration fee increases this plan calls for.

“I recognize our transportation infrastructure is a core function of government that requires additional attention. I would have been willing to support one of the various compromise plans that would have asked less money from the taxpayers while addressing the critical infrastructure needs in our state, prioritizing the needs of local citizens and job creators, and better utilizing the approximate $6 billion per year our state already spends on transportation. Unfortunately, the only plan I had the opportunity to vote on was much too expensive and asks entirely too much from local taxpayers.”

Questions about this or any other legislative issue may be directed to Gabler’s DuBois district office at (814) 375-4688 or his St. Marys office at (814) 781-6301.
