Ending State Liquor Monopoly Is ‘The Right Thing to Do,’ Say Gabler, Sankey
2/26/2015
HARRISBURG – State Reps. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) and Tommy Sankey
R-Cambria/Clearfield) today joined the majority of their House colleagues in passing legislation which would increase convenience for consumers while getting Pennsylvania out of the business of selling liquor. House Bill 466 may now be taken up by the state Senate.

The representatives issued the following joint statement following passage of the bill:

“The time has come for Pennsylvania to join 48 other states in getting out of the government-run liquor business. In supporting this plan, we are embracing the principles of limited government that our constituents expect while providing the consumer convenience they regularly request.

“The citizens of Pennsylvania will realize increased safety when the agency that regulates alcohol sales is relieved of the responsibility for also marketing and selling it, as this bill does.  Passing House Bill 466 is the right thing to do, and we look forward to working with our colleagues in the Senate in moving this plan forward on behalf of the people of our great Commonwealth.”
