State Election Law Discrepancy Corrected Under Gabler Bill
HARRISBURG – A loophole in Pennsylvania’s Election Code that creates potential problems for school board candidates would be corrected under a bill authored by state Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk). The legislation, House Bill 342, currently sits with the Senate State Government Committee following unanimous passage by the state House.
“The majority of school districts in Pennsylvania stretch over a number of municipalities, each of which may have differing rules concerning how many petition signatures a candidate needs to obtain in order to get his or her name on the primary ballot,” said Gabler. “House Bill 342 would address this flaw and make it easier and less confusing for the dedicated people who seek to serve on our school boards.”
In clearing up this inconsistency in state election law, House Bill 342 would add “school director” to the list of elected offices whose candidates would need to obtain 10 signatures on a nominating petition in order to be placed on a primary election ballot.
Questions about this event or any state-related matter may be directed to Gabler’s DuBois office at (814) 375-4688, his St. Marys office at (814) 781-6301 or Clearfield office at (814) 765-0593.
